Gilles Laurent was a tireless traveller in his job as sound engineer, always living in sync with his political, philosophical and ecological ideals. He never stopped searching... At the age of 47, he directed his first documentary: “Abandoned Land”.
Trained in the technical aspects of sound at the INSAS, a film school in Brussels, he worked as a sound engineer all over the world for 20 years. He worked, among others, with Carlos Reygadas (Japon, Post Tenebras Lux...), Diego Martinez Vignatti (Tides, The Tango Singer...), Kamal Aljafari (Port of Memory), Marjane Satrapi (Chicken With Plums), Wang Bing (The Ditch) Stéphanie Valloatto (Cartoonists, Foot Soldiers of Democracy), Abel & Gordon (Rumba), Clémence Hébert (The Father’s Boat), and Nathalie Borgers (Greetings from the Colony)...
Gilles was born in 1969 and died in the attacks in Brussels on 22nd March 2016. He was finishing the editing of “Abandoned Land”.
