Olga Špátová was born in 1984 in Prague. Her parents are renowned Czech documentarists Jan Špáta and Olga Sommerová. After graduating from a graphic school she applied at the Directing Department of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. She was refused three times. Her short feature films were awarded 26 awards at both amateur and professional Czech and international film festivals. Her film The Three Games/ Trojhra was awarded the Grand Prize at the 40th Academia Film Olomouc festival. She made a film about her relationship with her mother Olga Sommerová Un(censored) dialogues/ (Ne)cenzurované rozhovory and one of two parts of their common film Love – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow/ Láska včera, dnes a zítra. As a cinematographer she worked on the films of Olga Sommerová My 20th Century/ Moje 20. století and We Live Beyond Our Children/ Přežili jsme své děti. She also made a film DVD of Czech singer Radůza and a documentary about a National Theatre inscenation A Well-Paid Walk/ Dobře placená procházka directed by famous Czech film director Miloš Forman.
