Biography

He was born in 1984 in Pilsen in Czech republic. Has received his BA at FAMU, Dept. of Documentary Film. His student film Who Is Afraid of Ashley Lightspeed? won the Award for Best Documentary Film at FamuFest 2007 and Special Jury Award at Finale 2008. His bachelor film About a Home got accepted into Jihlava IDFF 2008 and was part of competition section at Fresh Film Fest 2009 and Finale 2009. He contributes to a number of magazines.

He is also among the pioneers of slam poetry in the Czech Republic. He performs all across Europe and was the only Czech delegate at the Berlin International Literature Festival. He won the first price in Final Competion of Czech Poetry Slam in 2005.

A surprisingly intimate portrait of how the dream of running one’s own business can take on monstrous contours. Managed by the father of one of the singers, over the course of five years the girl band 5Angels had reached the gates of pop fame. But it is a path paved not only with the songs of Michal David, but also with the dogged determination of a man who loses any notion of where his role as manager ends and his role as parent begins.

Gulîstan, Land of Roses Wins Prestigious Doc Alliance Selection Award at Locarno IFF

On Sunday, August 7, young director Zaynê Akyol became the 9th winner of the unique Doc Alliance Selection Award that is awarded since 2008 by the international Doc Alliance platform. The Kurdish director based in Canada received the award during an award ceremony at Locarno IFF. Along with the award, the filmmaker also received financial support of 5.000 euro for her future film.
