Since 2009, Viktor Portel has been studying at the Department of Documentary Production at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and is actively involved in various cultural and cultural/political projects. His filmography includes Hledání ztraceného, ztrácení hledaného (2008), Být rád že vůbec byl (2009), Od bratra k bratru (2010), Prostor pro naši reklamu (2010), Vladimír Špidla, běžec na svém místě (2011), and Kaiser Kanner Dirigent (2011).

Crowds of people are gathering at Vaclav Havel's funeral and in the meantime, politicians are voting for a law that would confirm Vaclav Havel as the one who was responsible for creating the Czech state. Street sweeps are collecting candles that were brought by mourners and artists are creating a monumental heart from them. It almost seems that with the melting candles, the need for personal interpretation of Havel's legacy disappears as well.

Gulîstan, Land of Roses Wins Prestigious Doc Alliance Selection Award at Locarno IFF

On Sunday, August 7, young director Zaynê Akyol became the 9th winner of the unique Doc Alliance Selection Award that is awarded since 2008 by the international Doc Alliance platform. The Kurdish director based in Canada received the award during an award ceremony at Locarno IFF. Along with the award, the filmmaker also received financial support of 5.000 euro for her future film.
