Doris Buttignol (Canada)

Doris Buttignol is a writer, filmmaker and multimedia artist. She was born and raised in France but began her artistic career in Vancouver, Canada. Doris also studied and lived for several years in England.

During the beginning of her career Doris collaborated in particular with Western Front on projects related to the FLUXUS movement and experimental work with new technologies.

She then turned her attention to documentary films, writing and directing over 20 features.

In 2006 her film One of Many was screened at the United Nations to address the notion of cultural genocide.

Doris’ work explores social and political issues in film and theatre. She has a particular interest in minority groups and as such founded the Gay Theatre Festival in London in 2005.
