John Webster



John Webster is a writer and director born in 1967 in Helsinki to English teachers who moved to Finland.

In 1996 John graduated from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki with an MA in documentary filmmaking.

He has been directing internationally awarded documentaries since 1990.

John is trilingual and speaks English, Swedish and Finnish.

Director John Webster convinces his wife and two small children that the whole family should go on an oil-free diet, yet without having to give up their a middle class suburban lifestyle...





“My work has two strands: the first one deals with direct political images of violence, aggression and protest, mostly in Israeli-Palestinian context. It’s critique of news media, researching the complex, both realistic and surrealistic aspects of these images. The second strand of videos is more abstract and universal, dealing with cognitive, environmental and existential issues,” says the director about his works.
