Biography

ismaël realizes video art and experimental films. He also practices both conceptual and documentary photography. Moreover, he does develop multidisciplinary installations.
Collaborating with Youssef Chebbi and Ala Eddine Slim, he co-directed the feature length documentary "Babylon" (Grand Prix at the FIDMarseille International Film Festival 2012 - Universities Price at the DocLisboa International Film Festival 2012). A number of his works have been presented in festivals of contemporary art, photography or cinema (Streaming Festival, Fonlad Festival, Reykjavik International Film Festival, International Film Festival of Belfort ...), galleries (Kanvas in Tunis, Chapon Rouge and Talmart Gallery in Paris...), museums (Museum of Carthage, Museum Of Modern Art in New York...), art centers (Living Art Centre of Tunis, International Centre of Brussels...) or projects online (on arteeast.org, on ibraaz.org...).
ismaël is also a writer. He has published numerous poems and articles in various media, either printed or virtual (Cahiers du Cinema, Dixit, [sic], Nafas Art Magazine, etc.). He is the author of an essay entitled "Cinema in Tunisia" (Tunis, 2008) and a poems collection entitled "Letters to death" (Toulouse, 2009).

Gulîstan, Land of Roses Wins Prestigious Doc Alliance Selection Award at Locarno IFF

On Sunday, August 7, young director Zaynê Akyol became the 9th winner of the unique Doc Alliance Selection Award that is awarded since 2008 by the international Doc Alliance platform. The Kurdish director based in Canada received the award during an award ceremony at Locarno IFF. Along with the award, the filmmaker also received financial support of 5.000 euro for her future film.
