Nathalie Mansoux



Born in Paris in 1974. Finished her master in Ethnology at the University of Paris X - Nanterre in 1999. After an academic year in Lisbon, she has moved there permanently in 2001. Since then, she has worked as director and directing assistant. She also translates and subtitles films for the Portuguese Cinematheque – the Museum of Cinema and Portuguese Festivals.

The forced repatriation of Azorean migrants from the US has resulted in tragic consequences for the deportees and their families. Leaving the islands at a young age, and raised in the US, they remember little of the Azores upon their return. Separated from loved ones and barely speaking Portuguese, their struggle leaves them disconsolate. Lost in faraway memories, the deportees come to abide in an open sky prison of abandoned hopes.

Gulîstan, Land of Roses Wins Prestigious Doc Alliance Selection Award at Locarno IFF

On Sunday, August 7, young director Zaynê Akyol became the 9th winner of the unique Doc Alliance Selection Award that is awarded since 2008 by the international Doc Alliance platform. The Kurdish director based in Canada received the award during an award ceremony at Locarno IFF. Along with the award, the filmmaker also received financial support of 5.000 euro for her future film.
