Today, Ludvík Toman (1920–1988) is known primarily as chief commissioning editor of Barrandov Film Studios during the normalization era. Nevertheless, in the second half of the 1940s, he started his filmmaking career as director of short films; in the 1950s, he made a whole range of popular-scientific films. He focused e.g. on the personality of Jaroslav Heyrovský and his research in the field of polarography (films Polarography I-III, 1955–1957).
