Matija Vukšić was born 1982 in Čakovec. In 2005 he graduated in journalism from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb, and in 2011 in film directing from the Academy of Dramatic Arts.
For many years he worked as a journalist and editor with HRT’s News Department, and he is currently an employee of the Documentary Department.
Matija wrote and directed student film Benjamin (2009), Happy Croatian in Bucharest and Iroquois (2010), as well as the feature professional debut Children of Transition (2014). He was a second assistant director on Vinko Brešan’s blockbuster The Priest’s Children and is currently preparing his first short fiction film Goran Street within the Zagreb Stories omnibus, which he wrote and directed.
His documentary film Benjamin, a story about a 17-year-old Roma boy in search for identity, has won the Grand Prix at Early Bird Sofia, second award at Fibula documentary film forum in Sisak, and it was shortlisted for best documentary by CILECT, the international film school association.
