For the 56th time, German member of Doc Alliance, International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, invites both local and international audiences to a journey beyond the limits of the usual understanding of documentary film towards animated film.


For the 56th time, German member of Doc Alliance, International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, invites both local and international audiences to a journey beyond the limits of the usual understanding of documentary film towards animated film. Its long-lasting effort to present the best of the unique blend of animated and documentary film to the viewers is crowned by this year’s launch of the new Animadoc Award; a single award of this kind among documentary festivals.

DOK Leipzig has been proving its interest in the merging of the worlds of animated and documentary film since it was founded in 1955. The new award takes up the strong tradition of the Animadoc section, which has been enriching the festival programme for 17 years. Who is to become the first winner in the award’s history? Make your tip among 16 animated documentary films available in the week from October 28 to November 3 for free!

The history of one idea with monstrous consequences, presented in the style of old newsreels and interspersed with quotes from Patrik Ouředník’s Europeana. Archival footage is combined with animation as a kindly narrator takes us on a journey from the idea of cultivating a “better human race” all the way to the gas chambers.
