10 Years of Discovering the Best Documentaries for You

First Taste of Documentary London

open_city_2014_1

In a few days, UK‘s capital will be flooded by documentary euphoria. The highly anticipated film event of the capital city, Open City Docs Fest, will gradually enter various parts of London to lure as many audiences as possible. Be enticed to visit the documentary scene above Thames River as well! From May 26 to June 1, DAFilms.com presents exceptional films which have shined in the international competition of the festival in the past year for free.

Open City Docs Fest will brighten London’s streets in the week from June 17 to 22, 2014. Besides the attractive film programme, it will also offer a series of public debates and related events both for film professionals and the general public. It is the general audiences that the festival keeps in mind all year long. Based on the unique collaboration of the festival team with the facilities and representatives of UCL (University College London), the festival can pride itself on young and creative audiences. For three years, these audiences have had a chance to help create a unique British documentary map within the My Street Films project, showing the life of both extraordinary and ordinary places inhabited by both extraordinary and ordinary British people. DAFilms.com portal is the first international partner to take the project beyond British borders, addressing the Czech public with the call “Your street, your film”.

The phenomenon of the city, particularly city life quality, is also explored by the feature-length film THE VENICE SYNDROME. The “floating” Venice, the destination of tourists and lovers from all corners of the world, is introduced from a less known perspective of the local inhabitants. In their point of view, the romantic and mysterious image of the city turns into a socially insufficient place crowded with tourist shops with a catastrophic housing situation. While the wealthy tourists from the West and Asia are booking suites in the most luxurious hotels in the city centre, the local inhabitants are leaving Venice on a mass scale.

The other two presented films, TCHOUPITOULAS and KARAOKE GIRL, too, reveal unexpected aspects of the city, this time in the night. While the film by the Ross brothers is circling the night panorama of New Orleans with its visually impressive images in the company of three kindred protagonists, KARAOKE GIRL concentrates Bangkok nightlife into a single protagonist; a “night girl”, young villager Sa who sells her body to make a living.

The untraditional images of Venice, New Orleans and Bangkok are brought to you in the week from May 26 to June 1 online and for free by London’s traditional Open City Docs Fest and DAFilms.com!
