Slices of Jihlava
Already a day after the Closing Ceremony of the 13th Jihlava International Documentary Festival, its visitors, including those who did not make it to the festival, have a unique opportunity to try out the “Slices of Jihlava”, a selection from the accompanying programme we are offering from Sunday, November 1, until Wednesday November 11 FOR FREE.
Besides the 72 minutes of the Opening Ceremony and an expert lecture by significant theoretician and professor of film studies at San Francisco’s State University Bill Nichols on the theme “media and documentary”, you can also watch the author’s reading of Viola Fischerová presenting excerpts from her book “Domek nad vinicí”. Further on, you can take virtual part in the Darkroom project, the discussion of Martin Mareček’s film Auto*Mat, awarded the Audience Award, and the discussion of the film “Encirclement – Neo-Liberalism Ensnares Democracy.”
Films for the event
Debata po filmu Obklíčení – demokracie v osidlech neoliberalismu (Orig.) / Czech Republic / 8 min
This monstrous film by Richard Brouillette is based upon analyses by a number of intellectuals such as Ignacio Ramonet or Noam Chomsky. It describes, in curt black and white images, current world events in relation to various principles of the ruling neoliberalism and examines mechanisms used to maintain its global dictate.
