Living In Peace

2004 / Russia / 52min

War has been raging in Chechnya since December 1994. Sultan lost his wife and his home. For a chance at a new life, he flees to a small village in the Russian countryside with his son Apti. The two of them are hired to repair the stables in a kolkhoze. What is life like, away from the bombs, in relative peace? Sultan and Apti face a Russian society in disarray. The father’s integrity will remain intact until the end, but what about his son’s, this young man uprooted from his past? Should he trust a young Russian from the village who is about to go play war in Chechnya ? Can he belong in a society that pushes him away and offers him no future, or must he return to his troubled native land?
