The film is about the widows on the island Noirmoutier. Agnès Varda listens to them, films them; each one of them talks about her emotions, her feelings or her souvenirs. Many of them were married to fisher-men sailors, and one can feel their experience of living on an island, surrounded by water on all sides. They express their feelings to Agnès, a widow herself.
