This is a film that begins with the discovery of a script in a museum archive. The script is for a film that was made by the United Nations in 1956 about the Suez Crisis. Due to objections from Israel and France the film was banned and all rights were bought back by the UN. Why this censorship? Why this covering up of history?
The filmmaker travels to Egypt to look for the original locations of the film, with a thought in mind of re-making it. Throughout his travels more history is uncovered about the Egyptian people’s resistance to colonial rule and invasion - from the anti British riots in the 1950s to the civilian militias that fought the French and British at Port Said. Why doesn’t the script reference this part of the history? Does the script really portray any truth?
The more the filmmaker discovers the more he realises the problems of the original film - and his project of a re-make falls to pieces. Eventually lost in the Sinai wilderness, the filmmaker has no other option than to give in to the desert and embrace the night sky.
