Two Danish women decide to organise the first international marathon ever in Palestine. However, the two women have no idea how to arrange a run, Palestine doesn’t even have the 42,195 kilometres needed for an official marathon because of the Israeli occupation, and shortly before a United Nations race in Gaza was cancelled when the militant group Hamas refused to allow women to participate. The organisers therefore need the help of the president of Palestine’s Olympic Committee, Jibril Rajoub, who has been in Israeli jails for several years convicted of terrorism. Nevertheless the two main characters decide to jump head-first into it and they end up creating Palestine’s biggest sports event to date. The film takes the audience behind the scenes and shows how two Danish women single-handedly manage to put this historic event together and at the same time create a movement for Palestinian women who start tying their running shoes for the very first time.
