15 documentary festival hits in the second edition of KineDok

Last year saw the launch and pilot edition of KineDok, a unique international project presenting the screenings of creative documentary films enhanced by the debates with the authors of the films and various experts and by other interesting accompanying events. In 2016, this project, organized by the Institute of Documentary Film, offers 15 more European documentaries and brings site specific screenings also to the new audiences in Poland and Norway. Within the Czech Republic, the fans of creative documentaries have a chance to visit more than 150 screenings at at least 25 diverse places and explore current Czech and European documentary production.

International My Street Films project launches its third edition

The My Street Films competition, which invites the public to make their own short films from their surroundings, launches its third edition in the streets of Central Europe. The project originally comes from London where it mapped the city on the Thames through film stories about the streets and their inhabitants. In collaboration with DAFilms.com, the film map has expanded to the Czech Republic and from there to Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.

The Awarded Projects of the Fifth East Doc Platform

The key documentary industry event in the CEE region, East Doc Platform (EDP), organized by the Institute of documentary film in association with One World IHRDFF, brought more than 400 international guests to Prague in the week of March 7-13, 2016. They were both emerging and experienced filmmakers, representatives of important international film festivals or key personalities of world documentary industry. The record number of more than 220 upcoming documentaries in the stages of development, production and post production applied to this year’s edition of the event. Out of them, 32 projects were selected to take part in the core activities and compete for 9 awards.

Documentary “Fire at Sea” won Berlinale. Meet the winners Danis Tanović and Gianfranco Rosi at DAFilms

The Italian documentary Fire at Sea (Fuocoammare) won the Golden Bear at Berlinale. The documentary film directed by Gianfranco Rosi is an impressive poetic and political portrayal of Lampedusa Island where 400.000 migrants have arrived in the past years. The Grand Jury Prize went to Bosnian feature film Death in Sarajevo by Danis Tanović. After his recent triumph at Venice Film Festival, Gianfranco Rosi has scored again at an A festival. The fifth edition of EAST DOC PLATFORM – the biggest documentary event in the region – is drawing near

On March 7 to 13, the Institute of Documentary Film presents the fifth edition of East Doc Platform in Prague. The motto of this year’s edition is Sight Specific, expressing the variety of perspectives and approaches to documentary themes as well as one of the focuses of this year’s programme; site specific screenings and discussions as an alternative form of film distribution and support of dialogue between filmmakers and audiences. On January 15, the first edition of the international conference Film Literacy Lab dealing with the topic of film education was held in Prague. 7 European documentary film festivals presented their film educational methods and started a creative dialogue on 'How to teach about film?' in the present-day cultural landscape. The event was initiated by Doc Alliance and served as an introduction to the online educational platform Doc Alliance Academy.
