Eastern Promises
This week the Dafilms portal presents a considerable portion of European “exoticism”. Take a trip through the unique landscape of the Balkans with three remarkable documentaries. Although the protagonists of The Shutka Book of Records, The Mosquito Problem and Bahtalo! are rather poor, do not expect a heavy social drama. One can only live merrily without money! From May 14, you can watch the three films for free for a whole week.

Spirit of a Bloody King
Belgian filmmaking globetrotter Thierry Michel has revisited Congo, a former colony of his native country, referred to as “the dark heart” of Africa. After his successful films Mobutu, King of Zaire and River Congo, Beyond Darkness, he has extended his Congo filmography by Katanga Business. Providing a realistic and critical look behind the scenes of the mining of strategic resources, the documentary reveals the deep scar dug into the land and lives of the inhabitants of one of the most fascinating and tried African countries by the shovel of globalized corporate industry. Thierry Michel gives unceasing evidence to the fact that the times of colonial barbarism and rampant plundering, started by the infamous “bloody” king Leopold II in Congo in the 19th century, are not yet over. Katanga Business is available in premiere at DAFilms.com from April 30. During the first two days, you can stream the film for free.

From April 9 to 15, you can stream the films Boogie Woogie Daddy and Inbetweener by Swedish director Erik Bäfving at Dafilms for free.

SYRIAN DOX BOX GLOBAL DAY
DOX BOX Global Day is a manifestation of solidarity with the DOX BOX film festival, the Syrian filmmakers and not least the Syrian people in these troubled times.
This year's festival was announced to take place from March 7 - 15. The festival management, however, has found the situation in Syria too critical and has chosen to cancel the festival. Instead, they have invited documentary film festivals around the world to participate in a part protest, part celebration under the heading DOX BOX Global Day. Doc Alliance Films portal is pleased to participate, and to invite anyone to watch Syrian documentary films online…
