JAY ROSENBLATT JOINS DOC ALLIANCE

anita_bryant

With over twenty-five films to his credit in thirty years as a filmmaker, Rosenblatt has made a reputation for himself as internationally recognized artist whose genre-crossing oeuvre has touched themes such as mortality, isolation, childhood family, gender and Judaism.

As 2009 has proved be to a poignant year for gay rights issues, Doc Alliance has acquired I Just Wanted to be Somebody with impeccable timing. Rosenblatt’s 10-minute short documentary examines how the religious right in the United States indirectly brought the gay rights liberation in the 1970’s to the forefront of politics and media, strengthening their cause and calling attention to their struggle.

In I Just Wanted to be Somebody, Rosenblatt implements his cinematic dairy motif with an audio reading of one activist’s open letter to Anita Bryant, America’s leading gay rights opponent. Television news clips, commercials, and the home movies of Bryant comprise the film’s visuals.

Rosenblatt’s films have received over 100 awards and have screened throughout the world in international cinemas, film festivals and major television networks including HBO/Cinemax, the Independent Film Channel and the Sundance Channel.
