Doc Alliance Award 2011

The Good Life

Each film being nominated by one of the Doc Alliance festival partners, the selection included films from Germany, Norway, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Denmark. Denmark was especially lucky this year; not only did the award go to a Danish film; the winning film was also nominated by the Copenhagen festival. The film to win the favour of the international jury was The Good Life by Eva Mulvad depicting the difficult life of mother and daughter who used to be rich and have to live in poverty now at the South of Portugal.
“The director's negotiation and rapport with her subjects has led to that degree of seamless observation where we sometimes forget there is a camera there at all. These confessionals, silent moments of despair and bitter bouts of vitriol, seem to be played out for us directly, as confidantes, “ the jury said.
Director Eva Mulvad became internationally renowned for her film Enemies of Happiness. The examination of life in the fragile democracy of Afghanistan was awarded at significant festivals such as IDFA in Amsterdam or the Sundance Film Festival. The Good Life was produced by renowned Danish producer Sigrid Dyekjær. The Dafilms.com portal offers two of her most successful films; Mechanical Love (r. Phie Ambo) a Monastery (r. Pernille Rose Groenkjaer)
