Czech Joy online
Five Czech documentary films which have been presented together in cinemas within the Czech Joy in Czech Cinemas project since last year are available for free streaming from 17 to 23 September. Having received numerous festival awards as well as the best Czech documentary film of 2011 award, Solar Eclipse by Martin Mareček tells the story of two Czech development experts in a remote part of Zambia; EM and HE by Vladimír Michálek deals with songwriter Xavier Baumaxa and Northbohemian poet Em Rudenko; A Catapult of Fate by Jan Gogola introduces frontman of Katapult band Olda Říha; observational documentary On the Outside by Veronika Sobková follows three people leaving a prison; Race to the Bottom by Vít Janeček is concerned with the questions of work and unemployment.
“After festival screenings and theatrical distribution, it is important for this selection of films by distinguished Czech documentarists to live on and be available to those whose local cinemas have not presented the films. Our portal will make the films available online to spectators in the Czech Republic as well as abroad,” says Diana Tabakov of the Doc Alliance Films portal. The Czech Joy in Czech Cinemas project was initiated by Verbascum Imago distributor and Jihlava IDFF, which has screened all of the documentaries in premiere. Starting on the same date, Solar Eclipse and Race to the Bottom will also be available for download for a fee in AVI and DVD quality.
