Agnès Varda

for FREE STREAM from February 4 to February 17

Agnès Varda's creative film Cléo from 5 to 7 is considered one of the gems of the French New Wave. Some French critics perceived Varda as a director who parodies the New Wave. With a smile she responded that this statement is not precise because at that time she was still only in her thirties. Varda herself is against categorising. In her films, she focuses on topics such as sex, ageing, death and breaking social taboos.

THE BEACHES OF AGNÈS
Returning to the beaches which have been parts of her life, Agnès Varda invents a kind of self-portrait-documentary. Agnès stages herself among excerpts of her films, images and reportages.

WOMEN REPLY: OUR BODIES, OUR SEX
To the question “What is a woman?” posed by a television station, a few women filmmakers have responded, including Agnès Varda. This cine-leaflet is a possible answer, and is called “Our Bodies, Our Sex.”

THE GLEANERS AND I
An intimate, picaresque inquiry into French life as lived by the country's poor and its provident, as well as by the film's own director, Agnes Varda. The aesthetic, political and moral point of departure for Varda are gleaners, those individuals who pick at already-reaped fields for the odd potato, the leftover turnip.
