With the arrival of the new year 2014, the international collaboration of DAFilms.com portal and one of Europe‘s leading documentary organizations, Institute of Documentary Film (IDF), has gone one step further. Before our online presentation of films nominated for the Silver Eye Award scheduled for March, we are currently working on the interconnection of the extensive film databases of the two projects. “Since 2001, the Institute of Documentary Film has been supporting East European documentary film and its promotion on the European level. It provides help to directors as well as independent producers in the stage of development, production and distribution of new works. On its website www.DOKweb.net, IDF introduces the further progress of the films, including their success at film festivals, to both local and international documentary communities and the interested public. A closer collaboration of DAFilms.com and IDF has obviously suggested itself,” says PR manager Filip Šebek about the Institute, its activities and reasons for collaboration. The constantly expanding virtual catalogue of DAFilms.com has found a crucial partner in the Institute, which will contribute to a greater transparency of our documentary offer, currently including over 800 films.
As a novelty, films made with the support of IDF available on IDF’s website DOKweb.net are provided with an interactive link to take the users directly to DAFilms.com’s portfolio to watch the concrete film. The link is included in the film’s profile under the “WWW” caption along with other information about the film http://www.dokweb.net/en/documentary-network/east-european-docs/-dust-games-329/?. Interactive links are included e.g. in the tragicomic Bulgarian documentary Hotel Paradise or in the short experimental film Arsy-Versy. “To us, all forms of collaboration among documentary organizations are important and welcome. It is this very principle that the Doc Alliance is based on, as our success and continuity are defined by the creative partnership of seven European film festivals,” adds PR coordinator of DAFilms.com portal Andrea Průchová. The first dozens of films in IDF’s catalogue have been labelled already and dozens of others will follow.
However, that is not all in terms of this year’s collaboration of IDF and DAFilms.com. In the first week of March, i.e. from March 3 to 9, the two projects will present a selection of films nominated for the Silver Eye Award. Initiated by IDF’s distribution programme East Silver, the award focuses on films by documentary filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe and has already introduced several winners of leading festival competitions in the field of international documentary. To name just one, let us mention the Oscar nominee of 2011 Ramin from Georgia and Latvia, which is also included in the catalogue of DAFilms.com.
