We are launching a new portal Doc Alliance Academy offering documentary films and teaching materials for secondary schools and universities. In January, Doc Alliance Academy organizes a conference on film education.
DA Academy is an online source of quality European films and teaching materials suitable for teaching about film at schools. It is an international platform for the development of film literacy. The organizers have developed it since the spring of 2015 in collaboration with seven European documentary film festivals associated within Doc Alliance. This network includes Jihlava IDFF and documentary film fans may be familiar with it thanks to the possibility of watching films at the DAFilms.com portal.
All of the films and materials are available for free. Doc Alliance Academy currently offers nine remarkable Czech and international documentary films. These include Workingman’s Death by Michael Glawogger among others. Without registering, visitors can view and try the trial lesson dealing with The Great Communist Bank Robbery directed by Alexandru Solomon. “Documentary films are no longer mere bearers of information. They enter the field of fiction films and bring variety to TV production. They stir discussion and ask questions. These are some of the reasons why they are suitable for the school curriculum,” says managing director Nina Numankadić.
DA Academy organizes an inspiring conference in January
On January 15, 2016, the first edition of the international Film Literacy Lab will be held in Prague. It will offer seven case studies by experts on film education from seven European documentary film festivals. The aim of the conference is to inspire teachers and educational experts in how to use documentary films at school. “Good films can bring many new impulses to the classroom. Understanding film and audiovisual media in general is one of the skills that are essential for understanding the world,” says project coordinator Natálie Ostrouchova.
DAFilms.com is powered by Doc Alliance, a creative partnership of 7 key European documentary film festivals. Our aim is to advance the documentary genre, support its diversity and promote quality creative documentary films.
