If only because Das Filmfest has prepared a selection of the most interesting films from the current production of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From October 19 to 23, Prague’s viewers can visit Lucerna and Atlas cinemas and choose among almost 40 films, ranging from historical films and psychological drama through genre and art films to crazy comedies. The screened films will further include documentaries searching for answers to current issues and looking into the lives of interesting personalities. On October 31, the showcase will move to Brno and German will be heard at Art and Scala cinemas until November 3.

Das Filmfest will present a whole range of Czech distribution premieres; the most anticipated ones include the story of Austrian painter Egon Schiele (Egon Schiele – Tod und Mädchen), the drama 24 Weeks (24 Wochen), which has been shortlisted for the European Film Awards, the dark thriller The Dark Side of the Moon (Die dunkle Seite des Mondes) and the historical film Fog in August set in a children’s asylum and based on a real story. A record number of films will then be distributed in cinemas across the Czech Republic. “To us it is a sign that German language cinema is gaining importance and that Germany, Austria and Switzerland produce quality films that are interesting for international audiences as well,” says Sarah Polewsky from the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague.

Tickets to the festival films are on sale in the festival cinemas. All films are screened with Czech subtitles; most of the films also have English subtitles.
