The Italian documentary Fire at Sea (Fuocoammare) won the Golden Bear at Berlinale. The documentary film directed by Gianfranco Rosi is an impressive poetic and political portrayal of Lampedusa Island where 400.000 migrants have arrived in the past years. The Grand Jury Prize went to Bosnian feature film Death in Sarajevo by Danis Tanović. After his recent triumph at Venice Film Festival, Gianfranco Rosi has scored again at an A festival. Danis Tanović has continued the success of his film An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker. You can watch the previous films by the two filmmakers at DAFilms!

Below Sea Level is a film by Gianfranco Rosi set in the Californian desert, a few miles from the Mexican border, capturing the life of people who have left their past behind and started living a new life in a place with no electricity or running water. El Sicario – Room 164 is a portrait of a sicario, an expert in kidnapping, torture and hired killings, with a contract on his life of 250.000 dollars. Boatman is Gianfranco Rosi's account of a boat trip along the Ganges River, together with his helmsman Gopal. In a series of small portraits, Rosi depicts life on and at the banks of India's sacred river.

A Day on the Drina is a documentary film by Danis Tanović about the tense uncovering of human remains on the bottom of the drained Perucac dam in Bosnia in 2010. An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker is a para-documentary film. Nazif collects scrap iron to make a living. His wife Senada takes care of two children at home. She is pregnant with a third child. However, she miscarries and because she has no health insurance, the doctors reject to operate her until she pays 500 euro. The family doesn’t have that money so the only way to save Senada’s life is fraud... The main roles are played by the real couple whose case has stirred a debate on medical ethics and the situation of socially excluded families in Bosnia.
