Slovak documentaries, our focus for this week. A cinematography in the last months best known for Peter Kereke's Velvet terrorists, who will also present his new much awaited film at the International film festival Cinematik. This documentary competition presents the essentials of Slovak theatrical documentary distribution. We have gone through the history of their selection and made one of our own, leading to a presentation of 5 documentaries, which might ring the bell, having travelled a couple of international film festivals in history. We present films of directors Jaroslav Vojtek, Erika Hníková (Czech director, but Slovak coproduction), Zuzana Piussi, Marek Šulík and Jana Bučka.

In August, DAFilms will liven up with new talents. The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague - FAMU, will present a selection of the best student works, followed by an event dedicated to film debuts at Fresh Film Fest (International Festival of First Features and Student Films in Prague) and Nisi Masa (European network of associations consisting of young professionals and students from 26 countries).

Laila Pakalnina is one of the most prolific contemporary Latvian directors. She made dozens of documentaries well received at international festivals. In the film Leiputria, the film crew look for new, mutated animal forms living at garbage dumps. This documentary film received the European Film Award. Her feature length films usually have the form of comic, absurd mystification.
