Jørgen Leth and Hamburger in Four Minutes

Jørgen Leth and Hamburger in Four Minutes

Jørgen Leth (born 1937), living legend of world documentary, writer and poet, studied literature and anthropology. In the 1960s, he became a leading personality of Danish poetic modernism and experimental film. In his films, Leth creates film images similarly to a painter. At the beginning, he directs both the characters and the camera; during shooting, he stops “painting” the scenes and becomes an observer of the depicted events. We offer a rigorously selected retrospective of this Danish director most known for example for The Five Obstructions or his last film Erotic Man. Stream FOR FREE from November 13 to 25.

Contemporary Austrian Film

Contemporary Austrian Film

Austria’s avant-garde film tradition has been among the most sustained and radical of such traditions. As with other Austrian arts, it is a response (in part) to past national decadence and conservatism; its repository of cutting-edge experimental film and video works is uniquely impressive and progressive. Works that experiment with sonic art and digital technology, works that wreak havoc with the retina, this selection is an attempt to define a poetic edge within a vast array of production while (re)discovering new ways of entering into the “material” and the frame, and examining the mechanics of cinema.

Retrospective Of Nicolas Philibert

Retrospective Of Nicolas Philibert

This French director is a critic of documentary activism who calls himself “a bit of an anti-Michael Moore”, refusing, unlike one of the most famous activist filmmakers, to „think for the audience“. On the contrary, he „offers them something they can think about“. Philibert gained attention especially thanks to his successful film To Be and To Have, in which he portrayed a French single-class school and its specifics. A combination of a sensitive perspective of a specific world of preparations in one single-class school full of children of various ages and an original topic depicting ordinary life attracted large audiences, resulting in a worldwide commercial success. Other films in the retrospective also include Nénette, an original feature documentary about a female orang-utan with a Mona Lisa smile, and a film, or rather a return to the world of making a film about a triple murder – Back To Normandy
