Day of Mexican Cinema: Films By and About Indigenous Mexicans

August 15th is the day of Mexican cinema! We've partnered with IMCINE to bring you a focus on films about or by Mexican Indigenous peoples.

Mixing works by indigenous filmmakers with other films diving into subjects of great important to indigenous Mexicans, this program gives some idea of the range and richness of this kind of cinema. Whether portraying the loss of traditions and the siren song of false progress, or the death of a shared and collective memory in the face of industrialization, or simply in exploring family structures and relationships and the place of duty in a community, these are films that together form an invaluable corpus of essential non-fiction and fiction works.
