The top positions of our TOP 20 prove that DAFilms.com viewers bet on films by world-famous directors and time-tested documentaries. Two pioneering films from the beginnings of Czech cinema, placed on top of the viewers’ list, have proved that the digitization of archive film footage meets a significant response on the part of the general public. The first monothematic documentary dedicated to the Czech capital Old Prague (1920) and the disaster film Fatal Flight of an Aeroplane under a Prague Bridge (1919) remain in our documentary online catalogue along with another 8 archive pearls from the National Film Archive in Prague until the next year. A large portion of the viewers’ attention was also attracted by films included in the retrospectives of established documentary stars. The short controversial film Women Reply: Our Bodies, Our Sex by the First Lady of French documentary Agnès Varda’s as well as the master class by German solitaire Werner Herzog made it to the top six. However, the fact that DAFilms.com viewers are not afraid of less known filmmakers and experimental works is proved by the success of the psychoanalytical film play Imitations of Life by Canadian artist Mike Hoolboom as well as by the high ratings of the short Portuguese film Praxis. The viewers’ selection also includes Czech and Slovak works, primarily Czech Lion Award nominees Love in the Grave, Věra 68 and Váňa, as well as the latest films by younger documentary filmmakers Zuzana Piussi, Peter Kerekes and Roman Fábian.
