NEWS - Premiere of the film Home by director Margareta Hruza

From Monday, February 7, the Czech film Home available for sreaming and downloading at DocAllianceFilms.com.

The documentary film Home is a personal testimony on the impact of emigration. In 1968, while Soviet tanks are rolling into Prague, pregnant eighteen-year-old Madla and her married boyfriend, scenographer Luboš Hruza, escape to Oslo, Norway; there, their daughter Margareta is born. In the course of several years, they achieve great success in the theatre field and build a house of their dreams. At the height of her career, the beautiful and successful mother sends her fourteen-year-old daughter away from the family. Since that time, they have never lived together.

Margareta Hruza explores the failure of her family, trying to find a home of her own between Los Angeles, Prague and Oslo. Recapitulating her experience, she creates an image of a family destroyed by constantly busy parents and their great ambitions. In their talks, she recollects the crucial moments, trying to cure her nostalgia for home which ceased to exist more than twenty years ago.

“Home is an immensely thrilling and powerful film about loss and the search for home. The intimate story of a single disintegrated family addresses an essential theme of human identity,” says Czech documentarist Helena Třeštíková. The film was screened at the One World Festival and the Finale Czech Film Festival in the Czech Republic, it opened the Pärnu IFF and was broadcast at ARTE, the Finnish YLE and other television stations.
