On July 1, the 46th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival will start. Film lovers can enjoy the traditional competition sections as well as new films from prestigious international festivals. Enthusiastic followers of social life can enjoy the celebrities promenading on the red carpet. The Doc Alliance Films portal, however, has decided to take a different perspective of the Karlovy Vary festival, remembering what it looked like fourteen years ago. What was the festival jingle of 1997? What was the colour of the festival carpet? Who appeared among the prominent stars? Available at www.docalliancefilms.com from June 25 for free, the film In the Center of Film (In the Warmth of Home) not only answers these questions but also asks many more.
Soon the local media will be flooded by photographs of stars, reports and broadcasts from Karlovy Vary; however, in fact, they will capture but a fragment of the festival reality. Unlike the majority media, the documentary essay by Vít Janeček and Petr Marek In the Center of Film (In the Warmth of Home) provides a less stereotypical perspective of the festival events. Consisting of an associative cascade of images and words captured among guests, visitors, projection booths and the production backstage, the film presents the unique micro-world of the festival, in which perspective any information coming from outside seems as an extraneous element. Dazed by projections and a lack of sleep, festival visitors are standing in front of television screens in the foyer of the legendary Thermal Hotel, watching the news about the destructive flood of 1997. However, during the festival, reality seems remote and out of reach; and so do the faces of the main figures of Czech film as well as the festive fashion of fourteen years ago. The film by Janeček and Marek seems to induce a special kind of nostalgia for things to be less grey and weary; to be as they used to be. At the same time, it represents an interesting probe into the intense mind of two young directors; when shooting the film, they, too, were straddled between the aura of the festival and its film screenings and the task to conserve their experience by means of a documentary record.
In the Center of Film (In the Warmth of Home) can thus be a unique experience for those who are going to the festival this year, providing almost observational confrontation of the festival scenes of 1997 and their experience of July 2011. On the other hand, those who are not going to the festival thus have an interesting opportunity to revive the recent past as well as to critically confront it with the current image of the Karlovy Vary festival as presented by the media. Besides this film, the Doc Alliance Films portal further presents films by renowned filmmakers Andreas Horvath, Martin Mareček and Audrius Storys, whose latest films have been nominated for the documentary competition of the festival.

WE ARE VERY SORRY BUT THIS FILM IS UNFORTUNATELY AVAILABLE ONLY IN CZECH LANGUAGE.
