Biography

Together Massimo D’Anolfi and Martina Parenti in 2006 wrote and directed “I promessi sposi” (The Betrothed), selected at the Locarno Film Festival in ‘Ici & Ailleurs’, the film was awarded at the Festival dei Popoli and at the Filmmaker Film Festival in Milan. In 2009 “Grandi speranze” (Great Expectations) was also presented at the Locarno Film Festival in ‘Ici & Ailleurs’. “Il Castello” (The castle), selected in many international festivals (Cinema du reel, Nyon; Hot Docs, Toronto; EIDF, Seoul; RIDM, Montreal; etc…) was awarded at Hot Docs, Toronto with the Special Jury Prize and in EIDF, Seoul with the Special Jury Award, at IDA Awards in Los Angeles with the Prize for the Best Cinematography, at Torino Film Festival with the Premio Speciale della Giuria Italiana.doc and Premio Avanti.

One year at Malpensa: four seasons spent following the bureaucracy, the procedures, the controls and the movements that are everyday occurrences inside an intercontinental airport. A public space, in which Italian and international police forces collaborate, where every gesture is captured by closed-circuit cameras, each piece of luggage is studied in all its recesses in an attempt to ward off a potential and unknown threat. A place in which fear is the only thing not in transit.

Gulîstan, Land of Roses Wins Prestigious Doc Alliance Selection Award at Locarno IFF

On Sunday, August 7, young director Zaynê Akyol became the 9th winner of the unique Doc Alliance Selection Award that is awarded since 2008 by the international Doc Alliance platform. The Kurdish director based in Canada received the award during an award ceremony at Locarno IFF. Along with the award, the filmmaker also received financial support of 5.000 euro for her future film.
