Winter portion of documentary films

For 3.99 euro, you can get a selection of 8 documentaries that entered Czech cinematic distribution in 2016 as well as access to another 1500 films from around the world. Dear friends, please, do not forget that you can give an ideal present not only to your intellectual friends but also to yourselves.

The ever-growing portion of the film gems of 2016 presented at DAFilms.com includes star-studded and popular films such as Doomed Beauty by Helena Třeštíková and the brand new documentary gangster film Helena’s Law by Petra Nesvačilová. “We wanted to give space both to big names and talented debutants,” explains Diana Tabakov, curator of documentary films at DAFilms.com. The special gift selection of the online documentary cinema thus offers both films by established filmmakers (e.g. Steam on the River by Filip Remunda and Robert Kirchhoff) and by talented debutants (The Dangerous World of Doctor Doleček by Kristýna Bartošová and The Czech Way by Martin Kohout. “They are films that are currently premiered in Czech cinemas or are no longer in distribution, however, we know that viewers are still interested in them,” adds Tabakov.

DAFilms.com is a portal for the online distribution of creative documentary films which has been handpicking the most remarkable films for audiences across the world for 10 years. However, the winter portion of Czech documentary films is aimed primarily at Czech audiences. “Each year, about fifteen Czech documentaries enter Czech distribution. Through our special offer, we present the essence of the best and most essential films made in this creative field in the Czech Republic in one place,” says the team of DAFilms.com. Interestingly, the overwhelming majority of these films are portraits. “This year, the documentarists have dealt primarily with personalities fighting a battle between good and evil, which is the case with Doomed Beauty and Helena’s Law,” says Tabakov, adding that the filmmakers also look back at the recent past which they explore through strong characters. “We can see that in films such as Rino and The Dangerous World of Doctor Doleček. However, I’m not saying that it is a new trend in documentary. The local films are diverse and so are their makers. Our selection presents filmmakers who have found their method as well as those we want to support on their future path,” concludes the international expert.

The virtually tangible gift package of documentary films will also include the multi-portrait Is Everyone Right? Karel Floss and the Others by Helena Všetečková after its premiere at Prague’s Famufest. “Interestingly, the festival has been dominated by documentaries this year. Out of 25 competition films, 8 are documentary films, out of which 3 are feature-length films. These include Helena’s Law,” explains the film’s producer Mikuláš Novotný. Documentaries simply attract both viewers and filmmakers, also thanks to their interest in news coverage. That is why the popular online documentary cinema DAFilms.com offers a free stream of Květa Přibylová’s Traces, Fragments, Roots to all documentary fans. Enjoy!
