History is a mosaic of unrepeatable human destinies. Another part of the the cycle Private Century deals with 40s and 50s of the last century. The source of narration of a life story are private film archives of Šlechtl family.
Marie and Josef met at the grammar school in Tabor. Josef was son of renowned Tabor photographer Šlechtl and Marie in this way got to know the environment of their family studio. Taking photographs and filming became a part of her life. The loving relationship of Josef and Marie can be felt in the first shots they took.
The second half of 1940s for Josef and Marie the time of rebuilding of the photographic studio which they inherited from his father. This also included care for a large photo-archive. Their work evolved visits at president Beneš, who had a villa in nearby Sezimovo Ústí. Josef and Marie felt that they had their luck in their hands.
The early years after the communist coup the relationship of Josef and Maria was still stronger than the politics-charged milieu they lived in and which they managed to suppress from their lives. However, in the end the times hunted them down. At first it was the nationalization of their studio, later a stage-managed trial against Josef, because the communists expected to find compromising materials in the family photo-archive. Their story is accompanied by affectionate correspondence imprisoned Josef sent from the jail. It shows their defiance to the absurd era in which Josef and Marie had to live.
