Fish'n'Pills

The pill – symbol of sexual freedom. But what are its consequences? Are people really free in their decision making?

When some years ago British fishermen found spawn in the bodies of male fish they could hardly believe their eyes. Their suspicions naturally turned to a nearby pharmaceutical plant, from where they believed materials used in the production of hormonal contraceptives could have escaped. However, the latest research has found that the poor male fish most frequently lose their virility due to what are called endocrine disruptors. Such materials get into the water system from the urine of women who use hormonal contraceptives. Therefore the pill, that symbol of sexual freedom, not only prevents the human race from multiplying but also hinders the fish population as well. In this playful and amusingly edited black and white documentary by FAMU student Tereza Tara we meet not only gynaecologists, passionate fishermen and young women on the pill, but also biologists who love cycling or the poetry of Christian Morgenstern. / web
