Bieke Depoorter was born in 1986 in Kortrijk, Belgium. She is a full member of Magnum photos, the well-known photo agency, founded by Henri Cartier Bresson. She received her master’s degree in photography from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent in 2009. She works mostly on autonomous projects. The series is called Ou Menya and won several prizes, including the Magnum Expression Award, and led to a book, published by Lannoo in 2011. A similar long-term project in the United States led to her second book 'I am about to call it a day', co-published in 2014 by Edition Patrick Frey and Hannibal. Currently Bieke undertakes various works, such as ‘In Between’, where she is photographing in the intimacy of Egyptian Families. Since 2016 she works on several film projects. Dvalemodus is Depoorters first short film.
