Joële Walinga is a Canadian visual artist and filmmaker. Originally from Calgary, she studied intermedia at NSCAD University in Halifax and Concordia University in Montreal until she could no longer afford tuition, and continued her studies auto-didactically. She is an alumna of the 2021 Berlin International Film Festival’s talent development programme Berlinale Talents, and the 2022 Zurich Film Festival Academy. Her work has been shown at SXSW, the Art Gallery of Ontario, International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography, RIDM, MDFF Selects in partnership with TIFF, and Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival among others, and is available on Doc Alliance Films globally and on MUBI in the US & Canada. She lives between Toronto, Canada and Lisbon, Portugal.
