After growing up in Mozambique, Pierre-François Sauter moved to Europe as a teenager. He first worked in the art field, then as a film director and producer in Switzerland.
In 2009, he directed Facing the Judge, premiered at Visions du Réel and screened internationally. His second feature, Calabria (2016), won a special mention at Visions du Réel and four major awards worldwide. Far West premiered in competition at Visions du Réel 2024, later winning Best Director (FIDBA) and Best Cinematography (Saratov).
