Domenico Centrone (Italy)

Domenico “Nico” Centrone was born in 1992 in Apulia, in the South-East of Italy. During his studies in ICT and Social Studies in Rome he started working as a script consultant, production assistand and director for well estabilished production companies such as Fandango and ZaLab. Filming between Europe, Northen Africa and the Middle East on independent film projects he gradually learned the technical craft of filmmaking, realizing that the boundaries of audiovisual storytelling could be broken in playful ways.

In 2017 in Rome he founded, together with other 12 young directors, the Melkanaa Collective: a gathering of filmmakers with a specific focus on social and political themes. Together they directed Outsiders, that made its way in several festivals worldwide and reached national theatrical distribution in 2017. In the same year he directed together with Alessio Gonnella the short documentary War Postmen, premiered at Ferrara Internazionale.

In 2018 he joined the sixth edition of DocNomads, one of the most prestigious documentary film Master in Europe, where he kept discovering his authorial identity realizing two short films: The Memory Atlas and Does Santa Maria Dream of Space Ship?, both touring international documentary film festivals.

Currently lives and works between Belgium and Italy as a creative documentarist.
