Milja Viita (1974) is a visual artist working with cinematic installations and films by using experimental and documentary material. Her works are characterized by memories and small and familiar phenomenons that are made significant by visual narration. Milja Viita's film Animal Bridge U-3033 was awarded with Risto Jarva Prize at Tampere Film festival in 2019. She holds a MFA degree from the Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Time and Space based Art (2005). Viita's works have been shown e.g. in Contemporary Art Museum Kiasma, STILLS - Scotland’s Centre for Photography (Edinburgh, UK), National Gallery of Art (Washington, USA); and on a television and numerous film and media art festivals internationally e.g. The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival (2019), Tampere Film Festival (2019), Animated Spirit in New York (2017), European Media Art Festival Osnabrueck (2017), Tricky Women Festival in Vienna (2017), Kassel documentary Film and Video Festival (2016), Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (2013 & 2019).
