Štěpán Altrichter (Czech Republic)

Štěpán Altrichter was born in 1981 in Brno. He studied philosophy and psychology at the Freie Universität Berlin. In 2005-2006 he studied directing at the Filmarche Berlin and in 2006 he was accepted at Prague's FAMU and HFF Potsdam-Babelsberg. In 2013 he graduated from HFF Potsdam-Babelsberg. During his studies he worked on film projects in Germany, the Czech Republic, Peru, Turkey, China and Iran. He made several short films for ARD and ZDF. He has won a number of awards for his documentary film 'Aleyna - Little Miss Neukölln', including a prize for the best German TV movie for children. His feature-length debut, 'Schmitke', premiered at the Busan 2014 International Film Festival and won many awards (among others Best Film Debut at Cottbus Film Festival, 2 Czech Lions for Best Music and Best Sound, Film Critics Award for Discovery of the Year). 'Schmitke' was theatrically released in Germany and the Czech Republic in 2015.
