Ali Razi (Iran)

Born in 1978 in Shiraz, Iran, Ali Razi is an acclaimed independent Iranian author of cinema and theater whose works have been welcomed by various international institutions. His theater performances as his films have been seen in various prestigious venues and festivals in Iran, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium and other European countries for the past 15 years.

Candidate of the "Peace Prize" in DOK Leipzig 2010 and awarded by Unesco for his plays, Ali Razi is in permanent research on the hybridization between documentary and fiction also he tries to explore different layers of reality and fantasy through his works.

Twenty Days That Shook Tehran (2010) and Things We Do Not Say (2018), have been selected in many film festivals such as Visions du réel, Jihlava international film festival, Dok Leipzig, Denver Film Festival, IDFA Amsterdam Film Festival, IDDF Toronto Film Festival, Journées cinématographiques, etc.

His works deal with topics such as totalitarianism, democratic freedom and immigration. Tony Bell from IDA writes; "Ali Razi’s deeply personal meditation, which combines past and present footage, provides a commentary not only on memory but also on how the performance of memory can lead to a greater understanding and resolution."
