Arya Rothe (India)

Arya Rothe is an Indian filmmaker and co-founder of the NoCut Film Collective, established in 2016 with filmmakers Cristina Hanes (Romania) and Isabella Rinaldi (Italy). Her directorial debut, A Rifle and a Bag, received a Special Mention in the Bright Future Competition at the 2020 IFF Rotterdam. The film has since been screened at more than 50 film festivals worldwide and was also featured on MUBI.
Arya is a Logan Elevate Awardee granted by the International Documentary Association and a Points North Fellow. She is the co-producer of the European Film Academy-nominated Marching in the Dark (CPH:DOX 2024, Human Rights Award). She also edited the Kazakhstani documentary River Dreams (Berlinale 2026, Ecumenical Jury Award). She has worked as a director, writer, and editor on documentary projects for platforms and broadcasters including ARTE, RTBF, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. Arya is currently developing her first fiction feature film with support from the Hubert Bals Fund. She is also in post-production on the documentary Green is the Fire's Tint, conceived as a sequel to A Rifle and a Bag.
