Katarína Kerekesová was born in 1974 in Žilina. She studied Animation at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where she also obtained her PhD degree. In 1997 she debuted with the amateur short film Lovers Without Clothes (Milenci bez šiat). Five years later she premiered the medium-length film Origins of the World (Pôvod sveta). In 2010 she made the animated musical Stones (Kamene). She produced and directed animated TV series for preschool children called Mimi & Lisa and The Websters with her production company Fool Moon, s.r.o. She is also an illustrator and a painter.
