João Dumans is a screenwriter and director based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
He wrote the feature film Where I grow old (Marília Rocha) that premiered internationally at the Rotterdam Film Festival, in the Tiger Competition Award, 2016; co-wrote and co-edited the feature The Hidden Tiger (Affonso Uchoa) that premiered at the Hamburg Film Festival, 2015; worked as an executive producer and assistant direc- tor of The Residents (Tiago Mata Machado), that premiered at the 61st Berlinale - Forum; worked as a historical researcher and script colaborator for the film Joaquim (Marcelo Gomes), that premiered at the 67st Berlinale. He directed the medium-lenght documentary Everybody has it’s own way (2014).
He has curated and organized several film exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, among them “Constructing Views: experimental film and video in Brazil”, for the New Museum, in New York. He has pub- lished articles in film catalogs and magazines as Cinética and La Furia Umana, where he has also worked as an assistant editor, publishing articles on important brazilian filmmakers as Julio Bressane, Andrea Tonacci and Aloysio Raulino.
