Sophie Fortier was born in a farmers' village no bigger than a handkerchief. Groundhog hunting, BMX rides and Bazooka gum sweetened her childhood. Fascinated by all those humans living in parallel, she started dreaming of writing and traveling around the world as a kid - and soon developed a preference for the oddballs and underdogs around her. She studied communications and film at the Université du Québec à Montréal, where she directed her first short documentary, Des mots, des munitions (Titre official en anglais?), which was selected by international film festivals. She has since worn different hats on independent artistic projects, from fiction films to music videos, along with other documentaries. Now a film director and scriptwriter, she hand knits all her projects with the meticulousness of a watchmaker.
