Si Yabosokanen (Taiwan)

Si Yabosokanen was born on Orchid Island (Lanyu), Taiwan. Her Tao name, Si Yabosokanen, was given by a community elder of whom she had taken care; with a literal meaning of 'a person who has nothing to eat', the name is actually a blessing of plentiful sustenance. She earned her Master's degree in Public Health at the Tzu Chi University, and worked as a nurse at the Lanyu Health Centre. At the age of 25, she began using a camera to film the unknown stories of Tao elders on the island. In 2017, she founded Yabosokanen Home Care Association, the first home care institution in Lanyu. She was awarded the Nightingale Individual Special Contribution Golden Award in 2019, for her warm, caring spirit.
