Dāvis Sīmanis is one of the most internationally acknowledged Latvian filmmakers who has directed numerous documentary and feature films. His films have been selected for and won awards at many prominent festivals around the world (MIFF, Ven-ice Film Festival, CIFF, IDFA, CPH:DOX and others). His first collaboration with a producer Radim Procházka and other Czech filmmakers was the essay CROSSING BORDERS. After another international cooperation YEAR BEFORE WAR, they have been working on the upcoming documentary FRANKENSTEIN 2.0. For many years he was a permanent professor of film at Aalto University in Finland and now teaches in Riga, Latvia. His feature debut EXILED (2016) won, among others, the FIPRESCI Award at the Cairo IFF.
