Therese Koppe was born in East Berlin in 1985. Following a B.A. in Sociology and Film Studies (2011), Therese worked as an Assistant Director in Theatre. In 2011, the Leonardo Da Vinci programme brought her to Istanbul, where she worked at the Documentarist - Documentary Days film festival for several months. A scholarship by the Hans-Böckler Foundation (in 2012) allowed her to move to London, where she gained a Master's degree in Documentary Practice. Her graduation documentary All Points North (2013, 25') premiered at the Which Human Rights? film festival in Istanbul in 2013. Following her M.A., Therese worked for a number of art and cultural projects in Berlin and abroad (among them the exhibition 77#13 - Political Art in the Resistance in Turkey at neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (nGbK) in Berlin and Turkey). Since 2015, Therese is a Master's student in Directing Documentary at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. While working as a film director, Therese is a lecturer in Documentary Theory and Practice, last at London Southbank University (2018-2019). With the educational film program Cinema en Curs, Therese is running Documentary workshops with pupils. For the development of her second feature documentary Haunting Heimat, a portrait about two Namibian Women and their perspective on the German colonial heritage, she received with her co-author Lisa Skwirblies the Crossing Borders research grant by Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB) and Robert Bosch Foundation.
