Zoya Laktionova is a ukrainian documentary filmmaker and contemporary artist. She was born in Mariupol in a working class family in 1984. Zoya first appeared in the world of documentary cinema as a character in 2017, and a year later made her first short documentary Diorama about the mined sea in the Mariupol area. Zoya`s films are screened both at film festivals as well as at art museums. Her short films have been shown at DOK Leipzig and Cottbus, as well as at the Center Pompidou (Paris) and MUMOK (Vienna). Zoya was awarded a Harriman Residencies in Paris by Columbia University.
Before the start of a full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine (24/02/22), Zoya lived in Kyiv and worked as an independent artist and documentary filmmaker but had to leave the country soon after. She works with themes of war, memory and personal stories.
